Interior

The newly redesigned 2019 Lexus ES seats five people. Standard features include synthetic leather upholstery, car seat safety anchors, soft-touch materials and a 16.7 cubic-foot trunk. The hands-free power trunk lid is optional.

Additional features include heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, added thigh support via the driver?s seat power cushion extender, illuminated entry, dual-zone climate control with a smog sensor, driver?s seat memory for three drivers and perforated leather. These are upgrades that come with the optional premium package. A remote touchpad and wireless charging are also available.

Technology

The infotainment system for the ES isn?t a touchscreen, but it does have voice control via Amazon?s Alexa. Standard features include Bluetooth, an 8-inch display, a Wi-Fi hot spot and smartphone integration. An optional 12.3-inch screen is available, as is a Mark Levinson sound system and navigation.

The optional navigation system with the 12.3-inch optional screen features a full-screen map view to make it easier to glance at the directions. It also includes up-to-date weather and traffic information and 3D city views to help you miss traffic jams or get off the highway before you get caught in an upcoming storm. The optional 10.2-inch head-up display puts information such as road signs, current gear, speed and rpm on the windshield. Instead of using Alexa, you could opt for the dynamic voice command system for more accuracy.

Performance

The 2019 Lexus ES has some engine changes for the new year. The 3.5-liter V6 engine now makes 302 horsepower and is backed by a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The Lexus has better acceleration than it did in previous years and has plenty of power. The transmission features eco, normal and sport modes. Estimated fuel economy is 33 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg in the city.

The front-wheel drive versions have standard shocks while the F Sport package has an adaptive variable suspension system.

Safety

Safety features that come standard on the 2019 Lexus ES include oncoming vehicle detection, a pre-collision system, daytime bicyclist detection, low light pedestrian detection, road sign assist, adaptive cruise control, road edge detection, lane departure alert, steering assist, lane tracing assist, parking support alert and automatic high beams. These are bundled as the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0. Additional safety features include a rearview camera, rain-sensing wipers, a head-up display to keep your eyes on the road, blind spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera system and parking sensors. All except the rearview camera are optional.
